Sophomore Reflection:
II have found my place at Drury and I am anxious to continue discovering opportunities. This year I became an orientation leader for incoming freshmen. I was inspired by my orientation experience and decided that I wanted to help the new class feel welcome and a part of the Drury community. I had so much fun throughout the process that I decided to enroll again this year and am excited to see what the new class has in store. For class, I visited the Pulitzer in St. Louis and spent a weekend in Eureka Springs. I am fortunate to be involved in a program that engages us and puts us to do real field work. Some of the things I love to do most are travel and discover and through architecture I have been pushed, more so this year, to discover communities and understand their sense of place and culture. I was also treasurer for the French Club where I helped run and plan events. I am excited to have been re-elected next year so I can continue expressing my love of French and educating people of Francophone culture. This year also came with many tests through which I was became motivated to find solutions and understand my wants. I had to create a portfolio and apply for the upper division of architecture. Recently, I received word that I had been accepted into the upper division of the program! This is the year I discovered most about me and determined I should seize any opportunity no matter how small. I accepted an opportunity to go to China this summer and intern in Hangzhou.
Artefacts:
This year my studio projects focused on the human experience and environment. Below are the four projects I completed in a whole year at Drury. They focus on how a site can interact. They address how architecture can become a tool for community. They inspire artistic use and innovation. This year they also focus on the potential of craft and exploring a deeper meaning. If I am to become an architect I want to do so the right way. It is important for me t understand the higher power of architecture to heal communities, empower populations, and establish growth. One of the biggest reasons I entered Architecture was to learn to help heal my community -Puerto Rico. Now, I have begun to grasp the surface of what I can do through architecture and am more excited to continue to learn.
