My journey in the honors program officially began at the honors orientation. We played games and got to meet each other. It was then I understood that the honors program was going to be another one of my Drury families.
I did plenty with the honors program over the last year. We went to a leadership ranch, took an improve class, put on a comedy showcase, and even won an award for our collective work. I had a great time and I learned the meaning of teamwork, confidence, and risks. Most importantly I learned the importance of fun in the everyday life. Everything we accomplished in the honors program this year was part of the experience to live, learn, and laugh. I am excited to see how I will continue to grow with this tight group of people.

This was the first major writing assignment in class. When I first wrote it, I was full of confidence. I felt I had done an excellent job and was certain I would receive an A. At the bottom of the paper the paragraph written by my professor, as well as the grade contradict that. I put this as an artefact because it shows one of my failures. We can all learn from failure. Previous to this I had not ever received a grade lower than a B on an essay. I felt discouraged and embarrassed. However, from this artefact arose an opportunity. I was able to work closely with my professor to improve my writing and see my faults. I realized the help I could receive and I feel proud that I was brave enough to understand what I should do. The artefact demonstrates my level of motivation and overall acceptance of chance and opportunities. Were it not for this paper I wouldn't have improved.

This essay is the culmination if a human rights in Asia class that I took over the fall semester. I researched the Rohingya and the situation which they face in their native land Burma. This writing project opened my my eyes to the world around. It made me realize that while we may indulge in many freedoms across the US, situations elsewhere are much less pleasurable. There are places in the world that don't practice the idea of human rights and that don't believe in the same principle human rights as many countries. It pushes a debate regarding the definition of a human right, the imposition of other nations in human rights debate, and accepting terms. I became more aware of myself as well as more aware of the challenges others face. Human rights are not necessarily universal and through this project I have come to understand the many challenges between human rights, people, and governments. While I would like to say there is a simple solution, it is unfortunately much more complex in nature.

This project was very eye opening regarding the history of architectural movements, design, and styles. Understanding why architecture has developed the way it has is crucial to recognizing how architecture should proceed. Is it social? Is it functional? Is it of the time? There are many way a design could progress. In this project I examined Adolf Loos, a principle developer of the new modern style of architecture. In doing so I was able to examine his methods and designs to grasp reasoning. I will better be able to inform and reflect on my work because of it. It is important to maintain a critical eye in architecture in order to determine whether the choices you are making are appropriate. It is important in order to learn from your work and experiences as many great architects did and continue to do. Through this assignment I learned to appreciate that quality and to look at designs direction in a new way.
